The Congress “Las fiestas de Cruces y Mayos en el siglo XXI. Tradición, pervivencia y adaptación” [EN= «The Crosses and Mayos Festivals in the 21st Century: Tradition, Continuity, and Adaptation»] is open to receive posters related to the subject matter of the congress. 



Spanish, English, French, Italian.



The thematic axes that posters should address include one or several aspects related to the festive cycle celebrations at the beginning of May in any region or country:

  • Rituals around the May Cross
  • The May tree / May pole
  • May songs and other music associated with these festivities
  • The May person
  • The May Queen
  • Pairing of Mayos and Mayas
  • Persistence and adaptation of these festivities in the 21st century
  • Case studies
  • Etc.


1) Posters must be printed by the author(s).

2) The poster format should be A1 or A0, following academic standards.

3) Authors are responsible for sending or delivering the posters to the congress. There are two possible ways:

 3a) Postal/mail delivery:

3b) Hand delivery: The poster can be brought in person on the first day of the congress or deposited before the congress date at:
– Municipal offices addressed to “Concejalía de Festejos – Congreso”
– The Department of Prehistory at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (Faculty of Geography and History) (until April 24, 2024).



Attendance by the author(s) is not mandatory. If you plan to attend, please indicate it so that we can take it into account during the organization.



Registration is free but mandatory. To present your poster, you must complete this form with the poster proposal summary (approximately 250 words) by March 24, 2024. The proposal will be reviewed by the Organizing Committee, and their decision will be communicated to the authors by March 28, 2024.



Presenting a poster provides an opportunity for the publication of a brief article (10 pages, A4 size, including bibliography) in the congress proceedings. The CECM will publish the proceedings in the special volume No. 5 of the Revista de Estudios del Campo de Montiel (RECM) after a formal peer review process. Authors must adhere to the editorial guidelines of the RECM and follow any recommendations provided.



  • March 3, 2024: Opening of poster proposals.
  • March 24, 2024 (23:59 h): Deadline for submitting poster proposals.
  • March 28, 2024 (23:59 h): Notification of accepted posters.
  • April 24, 2024: Deadline for submitting posters to the Department of Prehistory at the Universidad Complutense.
  • April 27, 2024: Deadline for receiving posters at the congress venue.
  • April 27 and 28, 2024: Congress dates.
  • July 30, 2024 (23:59 h): Deadline for submitting the final text.

**The data provided to the CECM in this questionnaire will not be used for commercial purposes; it will only be used for specific management of the activity.
